Shop local this Christmas.
Christmas is around the corner yet again [insert frantic meeping]…
The most exciting part of the holiday season for me is by far the time spent with family and friends plus the downtime from work. Have you ever walked through the streets on Christmas and felt that magical air, kids are running through sprinklers in the backyard, adults are playing cricket in the street, it’s a happy time for most but certainly not all. Every year I feel the pressure gets more and more and any rules or regulations around family spending habits go out the window. I understand the importance and beauty in gift giving but every product you buy has a story… Some a happy story and some a sad story and this is more often then not forgotten in the haste to get the best present or the cheapest present.
This year I am writing a list, my top 5 priorities or goals for the holiday season to keep me in check with what I truly value. If you feel inclined to do the same I would love for you to share it with us over on Instagram by tagging us in the pic.
Here’s mine. Join in by posting your own to social media.
MY PICKS FOR SHOPPING AND GIVING THIS CHRISTMAS…
Ronald McDonald House Charities This is our pick for a charity donation during the holiday period. I couldn’t even imagine having a seriously ill child over the holiday period and we think what the Ronald McDonald House does is absolutely amazing. It is so easy to donate via their website - make a donation on behalf of your own family or donate instead of gift giving because I know if I unwrapped a card for a donation, that would make me 200 times more excited than opening up more clothes or earrings that I didn’t need.
Brown’s General Store Brisbane locals should know this gorgeous store, packed full of local hand made treasures to suit any occasion and if you’re really not sure, you can also buy a gift card so your gift recipient can buy something they need. They are also hosting some gorgeous late night shopping events all throughout December with bubbles, cheese, gift wrapping and carols [Say whaaaaaaat]. That sounds like my kinda shopping! Btw you can also shop the goodies online.
The Borrowed Nursery This store on the Gold Coast is absolutely stunning, a treasure trove of bits and bobs and beautiful hanging plants and pendants everywhere. You will be sure to walk away with something unique after visiting here. My pick would be gifting one of their beautiful wreaths adorned with dried flowers and foliage. If you’re a Gold Coast local, definitely check out their sister company The Botanica Box.
Meat at Billys Who wouldn’t want a nice juicy gift voucher for a top quality butcher? Give them what they really want so they can go splash out on that dry aged beef and bacon butter they’ve been eyeing off every time they go in store.
Make Christmas extra special this year by not just giving to your friends and family but also your community.
